Tue Apr 9 2013 True to their name, the notoriously tight-lipped team behind Secret Cinema won’t say a word about what to expect from the hugely popular film series’ twentieth instalment – beyond promising ‘the biggest cultural event of the year’. We can’t promise it will be that, exactly, but we can tell you Secret Cinema never fail in providing an exceedingly impressive alternative night out.
The film and theme is kept hush-hush until the day, but expect to see live music and DJs, hundreds of actors who recreate the film as you stumble across the set, food stalls and impressive set decoration. The effort these guys go to is definitely worth the ticket price, even at a hefty £43.50. Booking is most definitely essential.

The Sony World Photography Awards are widely recognised as one of the world’s leading photography competitions and the exhibition showcasing the extraordinary award-winning and shortlisted entries, held annually at Somerset House, returns this April.  Offering a stunning snapshot of the world in 2012, the show will present international contemporary photography from both professionals and amateurs in the fields of fashion, travel, wildlife, landscape, portraiture and current affairs.  The opening weekend of the exhibition coincides with the World Photo London photography festival.  As well as the opportunity to take a first look at the exhibition, visitors can participate in tal26 April – 12 May 2013

Red Shed at the National Theatre

If you've passed over Waterloo Bridge recently, you'll have noticed a bright red shack on the South Bank. This is The Shed, the temporary, younger sister to the National Theatre that will host experimental, adventurous and up-and-coming theatre for the next year. The repertoire will open with Table, a story of one family that spans 115 years, followed by a production about a bullet-catching magician and, later, a play about the Occupy Movement by Tim Price. Nudes & Dunes

Nudes and Dunes, currently showing at London’s Michael Hoppen Gallery, explores this capacity for abstraction further, pairing Weston’s shots of sinuous Californian sandscapes with the sun dappled forms of women underwater. For Hoppen, it was an amazing opportunity to show the works, particularly having discovered that the younger Weston had never before had a major London show. “The luminous tones of the dunes are so seductive and, when placed alongside the underwater nudes, the contrast of wet and dry creates a perfect marriage.”

Denim Genius and Liberty Unite

LIBERTY LONDON is famed for its heritage floral prints, and for spring/summer 2013 they have collaborated on an exclusive collaboration with denim genius AG Adriano Goldschmied.
The 13-piece capsule collection features three of Liberty's most distinctive designs.
An innovative dye-lift process removes the indigo pigment from the fabric, leaving behind the impressioned floral design. The effect is one that perfectly unites AG's vintage design aesthetic with Liberty's enduring textile prints.

Uniqlo & Celia Birtwell Join Forces

Uniqlo is to create a capsule collection with iconic textile designer Celia Birtwell, slated to launch in the UK this Thursday, March 21. The British designer's signature colourful bold prints will appear on dresses, T-shirts, jeggings, shirts, shorts, vests and tote bags.

"I've spent my life designing textiles so I have quite a big archive," Birtwell told us. "I was able to go through the library and reference certain moments. …..I then developed those selected specifically for Uniqlo." Says Birtwell

More than 50 Shades of Eileen Gray

 Eileen Gray is the 'black' of high design - her Dragon's Armchair set the bar when it sold at auction for 21.9 million euros in 2009.  Artist, furniture designer and architect, Gray was virtually ignored during her lifetime.  Today she is a collectors' dream as her pieces are so rare.  Gray is the subject of a retrospecitive at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.  Worth taking the Eurostar for!

Galliano v Dior: An Opinion

“Galliano appeared at a hearing at the conseil de prud’hommes (France’s equivalent to an employment tribunal) in Paris yesterday. His lawyer claimed victory after the court ruled it was qualified to hear the 52-year-old designer’s claims against his dismissal of creative director of Christian Dior in March 2011"

Galliano appears to have won the first legal bout with Dior.  His talent will undoubtedly be evident in his collaboration with Oscar de la Renta.  His previous income means he is a very rich man already.  Why not simply withdraw from the battle and allow his own genius to shine through under a label of his own making?  Withdrawing from the fight quietly would demonstrate enormous dignity - something perhaps that would complement his enormous talent and allow him to be considered now, and remembered in the future, as a creative giant of his time.
