Colour Block Bopping the Casual Route!

From Jil Sander to Sportsmax to DVF, colour bopping (i.e. colour blocking) was the story for Spring Summer 2011.  And bright sparks in the jeans world responded by dunking denims in electric shades of dye.  The fastest route to a fashion forward wardrobe when the sun shines!
“The fashion world took a giant leap into color this spring, and the denim makers were still offering vintage and classic washes, and a lot of other brands were displaying murky beiges and grays. Ew. And here in the middle of everything were J Brand’s exploding fuchsia, purple, vivid turquoise, bright red and lemon yellow.” Source: mamasarollingstone.com

An Idyllic French Retreat

Les Soeurs Anglaises in France is one of our very favourite locations for a getaway with a purpose.  The second 'workshop' this year (June 2 to 8 inclusive of travel) is being run by the amazing embroiderer Susie Cowie, best known for her beautiful work featured in Young Victoria.  Less known are her commissions for Margaret Howell, Anthropologie, GAP and Banana Republic.  Fly out to France by Ryan Air (Ugh! but it can be done for less than £50 if you are a canny booker), be chauffeur driven to and from the luxury 'boutique' hotel, and luxuriate in your own en suite room in an art filled 'home' surrounded by landscaped gardens.   Make use of one of the two heated outdoor pools, enjoy the home cooked food and hand picked wines and at the same time learn an exciting new skill.  These are some of the most affordable and luxurious breaks we have ever enjoyed and we will be going back for more.

Computer Genius - watch this and be amazed!

Matt Pyke: Computer Genius

The Artist Installs a Digital Fantasy Land at La Gaîté Lyrique

Today’s metamorphic short is a glimpse into the mind of digital artist Matt Pyke, who this week headlines Super-Computer-Romantics, the first major exhibition at Paris’s newly opened La Gaîté Lyrique. Curated by gallery director Jérôme Delormas and former Jalouse correspondent Charlotte Léouzon, the show presents an extensive collection of Pyke’s collaborative video work, with immersive projections encompassing the entire 26,246-square-foot space: cartoon-like monsters tower on ten-feet-tall screens, airplanes crisscross the ceiling, and chiseled dancers disintegrate (in the extended version of today's film) across a 69-feet-wide wall before transforming into bubbles. “I’m interested in bringing life and empathy into digital art rather than keeping its cold, abstract, machine sensibility,” Pyke says. The English mastermind is behind design studio Universal Everything, a collective of designers, programmers, musicians and artists known for its boundary-pushing commissions for clients including Chanel, MTV and London's 2012 Olympics. As part of Super-Computer-Romantics, a full-sized cinema will screen a mini-retrospective of Pyke’s commercial and artistic endeavors to date.
Check back on NOWNESS next week for an exclusive tour of Paris’s La Gaîté Lyrique.

The King of (Mc) Queens

One of the fabulous McQueens on show in NYC.  If you can't get there, Harvey Nics in Knightsbridge has several windows to the pieces that could not get through customs.  Lee McQueen.  A genuine genius.

Repeat repeat Repetto

Fab classic dance shoes from Repetto, loved by Brigitte Bardot and the stars for almost 65 years,  collaborated in 2007 with a whole host of fashion designers to celebrate its 60th Birthday.  This season Rei Kawakubo has partnered the label in updating two favourite styles,  the Zizi jazz shoe and the BB ballet pump, in bold block colours.  Comme what may, this footwear is a classic!

Rape - A Less Fashionable Subject

Sorry but I feel the necessity to join in the debate.  What Clark said was "if an 18 year old boy has sex with a 15 year old girl with her consent, he could be charged with rape unde the law and this is not as serious a crime as other rapes".  I TOTALLY agree.  Get off the poor man's back!  Who wants our 18 year old boys going to jail for even 15 months - the reduced sentence -  for having sex with his unerage girlfried.  Has the world gone mad?  Nonetheless, genuine rapists should undoubtedly be jailed and if we can get them to confess prior to a trial, better than no conviction at all - surely?  Only 6% of rape charges get to court and of those only 36% are convicted.
And what about "Rape by Consent"?  How many of us have consented unwillingly to sex with an aggressive male just to get him off our backs/fronts/beds? This is not rape in the convential sense, but an unwanted situation we have got ourselves into unwittingly.  We could all send these guys to jail but in reality what they need is to be taught to respect women - those who indulge in this sort of behaviour are ignorant oafs.  Enough said.  Too serious for fashion lovers but a feminine issue and we would love to hear what you have to say ...

Double Denim

Love love love denim and the multiple ways it can be worn and how brilliantly it ages and how sometimes (and most often) the older the better. The perfection of simplicity.

McCartney's relaxed tailoring and luxe sportswear are the epitome of modern British style. Which is why she was the ideal choice to design the British Olympic team's kit. Her original shop in Mayfair houses her womenswear lines, her famously non-leather shoes and bags, and the super-cute childrenswear range that she launched last year.  Image and most of the copy courtesy of Telegraph online.  Thank you Hilary!

Shoes Shoes Shoes!

Here at the Fashion Bloggers we're not really that into back aching Louboutin's (don't misunderstand - we love the look but they are surely designed for men and NOT for women BUT, as one divinely attractive man pointed out recently, men start from the eyes and the last thing they look at are your feet!) - but we LOVE shoes.  Check out these amazing brogues from Church's (shoes made to last a lifetime) and Liberty's foray into footwear.  Let us know what you think.

Luv my Loafers!

We love Loafers of any sort.  The loafers from Todds caught our eye as they are so pretty and would add a twist to a pretty floral Summer dress and are perfect for Summer.  And its Mothers Day in \usathis weekend and in France at the end of the month so if you missed it in the UK, a pair of these would make the perfect gift and way to say "sorry"!We've also found a site that loves loafers as much as we do:  The Style Director.  Check it out for some great edited finds.

Frock Horrors!

They could be the ugly sisters!  Who on earth styled these princesses?  We know their mother the Duchess Fergie was not invited to THE wedding but she should never have allowed them out looking like this!
